Recently, if you happen to know that you cannot view or don’t get notified about your friends’ birthdays in Facebook’s Android app, you aren’t alone!
I too was surprised that the Events app had no birthday option when I was looking for one of my friends birthdays. When I Googled it, to my surprise, Facebook Help Community was already flooded with several queries for which there wasn’t a solid answer.
Workaround to view your friends’ birthdays in Facebook’s Android app
Earlier, we can view all our friends’ birthdays by going to the Events tab. But now the Events tab has been revamped removing birthdays option.
With the recent trend of Stories, Facebook has started showing Birthday Stories. You can find out your friends’ birthdays through this and add a story. However, there is a pretty workaround to know your friends’ birthdays using the Facebook app itself:
- Click on the search icon in your Facebook’s Android app and search for the term “birthdays”.
- The search results page should show your friends’ upcoming birthdays.
- Tap See All to go to Facebook’s Birthdays page. Here, you should see Recent Birthdays and Upcoming Birthdays of your friends.
You can write your birthday wishes to your friends’ timelines on this page itself.
Till now there isn’t an answer why Facebook stopped sending notifications about friends’ birthdays. For iOS users, if there is the same issue, guess they could also use the above tip to view the birthdays in the Facebook app. Let me know in the comments below.
