Say you are scrolling down the Twitter Home timeline and come across a Tweet with emoji for which you cannot predict the meaning, what do you do? No worries! There is a way to know the meaning of it without even leaving Twitter (at least on the web version).
Find emoji meanings on twitter.com
Finding what an emoji means is pretty simple. All you have to do is just hover over the emoji and the description of it will be displayed as a tooltip. What Twitter does in behind-the-scenes is that it adds a title attribute to the emoji’s image tag. You can use your browser’s developer tools to test this.
If you are curious to know the meaning of all emojis, click Add emoji icon in the Tweet box without composing a tweet. The entire list of emojis will be displayed. Hover over the ones you need to find the meaning. You can also use the Search for emoji feature (similar to Gboard’s emoji search) to narrow down your search results. When you type Tweets, use this feature to insert emoji according to the context.
Facebook also provides Insert an emoji feature when posting status, but it does not provide emoji searches and hover descriptions. I wish every site add these little things in future. If you want to learn more about emoji, try Emojipedia.
